At this time, all Stellar Organizers must use Stripe through the integration to process payments. Due to the integration, Stellar never sees, stores, or has access to ticket buyer credit card information and all transactions, including refunds, are processed using Stripe.

How do I get set up with Stripe?

Go to your Dashboard, use the "Complete Your Account" wizard on the right side and click “Connect to Stripe” or go to Settings on the left side, and under Integrations, you'll see a "Connect with Stripe" button. While it’s also fine for you to go directly to Stripe’s website, going through the Stellar site helps link your accounts faster.

Here are some key pieces of info when setting up your Stripe account.

  • You should either be the owner of record for your organization or have the owner’s social security number, date of birth as well as your organization’s banking information including routing and account numbers.
  • For the Business description dropdown, choose "Music or other media" under Digital products. In the description text box field, include the following "Streaming content through the Stellar platform."
  • When asked How long after paying will your customers typically receive their goods or services?, choose "Within 2 weeks".
  • Be sure to review their Website Checklist to make sure you've covered all their requirements on your Stellar homepage and website.

Stripe's Identity Verification Process

Stripe is required to collect, verify and maintain information on the individuals associated with each Stripe account. These requirements come from their regulators and financial partners, and include implementation of the FinCEN Customer Due Diligence rule, which requires identification of those individuals with control over an account (also known as beneficial owners). These requirements are intended to prevent individuals from using complex schemes to hide terrorist financing, money laundering, tax evasion, and other financial crimes.

Stripe uses an individual's information like date of birth and SSN to programmatically verify their identity so they can start accepting payments immediately. Stripe's Privacy Policy explains why they need this information, what they do with it and how they safeguard it.

If you combine credit card processing with Stellar’s per ticket platform fee, you'll be charged anywhere between 12.9% - 17.9% per ticket.

How much does Stripe cost?

Stripe does not charge an ongoing platform subscription fee.

Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 transaction fee per transaction. Stellar is working with Stripe to negotiate lower transaction fees and commission and feels hopeful a solution will be in place in the coming months.

Stripe charges an additional 1% for non-U.S. credit cards and another additional 1% if a currency conversion is required.

Stripe does offer fee discounts to registered 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organizations of  2.2% + $0.30 transaction fee per transaction, with the exception of American Express payments which are charged at 3.5%.
